The primary aim of the General English course, as offered by City Metropolitan College is to provide students with effective instruction, knowledge and understanding of the various skills in the English language for travel and employment purposes.

• General English is available to all students at six levels — levels 1 to 6. This course is structured and developed in such a way so that students are provided with ample opportunities to master a variety of English language skills so as to become proficient in reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.


• Once students have completed levels 1 to 4, they may choose to continue on to General English level 5 and 6 or they may choose to embark on a programme that prepares them for IELTS. IELTS is another course offered by City Metropolitan College.

Pass Level 3 End of Course Exam with at least 75% in all four components of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Face-to-face Classroom Teaching

• All General English tests and exams administered by City Metropolitan College are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). CEFR is an international standard for describing language ability. It is used around the world to describe learners' language skills,


• The CEFR has six levels —from Al for the most basic beginner to C2 for the very highest level of ability.

• Speaking 25% (Spoken Only), Listening 25%(Listening and Written), Reading 25%(Written Only), Writing 25% (Written Only)


• All tests and assessments are conducted in class and not online.They are not open book tests or assessments.
